We show up every day for our music, because of you.

There’s an old saying that’s attributed to many musicians. “Skip a day of practice, you notice. Skip two days, the band notices. Skip three days, the audience notices.”

Sometimes life intervenes and we cannot practice, but we have every incentive to get back into it. We have an obligation to you. But just as importantly, we have an obligation to the music.

Improvised music demands everything from us. We have to be technically strong. The music we create must be richer and smarter tomorrow than it was yesterday, so our concepts have to grow. We grow faster when we listen to — and perform with — other great musicians. And some of us try hard to push boundaries of excellent, genre, and audiences.

We want to give you (many of you not trained in music) a special seat on this ride.

Discounts

We are working with venues to provide you discounts on food and cover charges. We hope this will get you out more often to see us.

CONTENT

We will be producing a series of videos that tell our stories. Why did we get turned onto jazz? Why do we think it’s important and amazing? What should you listen for? What musicians do we recommend? How is jazz changing?

We’ll spend time and money putting these together, and so we’ll be charging for those videos. We’ll also be selling our CDs here.

When we can, we’ll offer discounts, often sponsored by our favorite venues in Portland. In fact, we’re enthusiastic about working with jazz venues here. After all, we’re in this together for you — we bring the music, they bring the exposure.

What we want you to bring is your ears and your hearts, and our job with our content is to make both of those bigger. Big ears mean you hear and understand more of what we’re doing. And big hearts mean you’re open to the dance of tension and release, expectation and surprise, that is so extraordinary with music that’s invented right before your very eyes.
